Teal Tidbits: Celebrity Edition Vol. 2

by on April 9, 2012

I’m back again for another celebrity edition of Teal Tidbits!

Last week, actress Andie MacDowell of Four Weddings and a Funeral fame made the news for lending her voice to raise awareness for ovarian cancer.  The actress has not had ovarian cancer nor had any family members with the disease.  She simply saw a need and got involved.

She and Desperate Housewives actress Eva Longoria (who also has no direct connection to the disease) got involved with the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund through their work with L’Oreal Cosmetics.

MacDowell mainly advocates for the cause in her home state of South Carolina working closely with South Carolina Ovarian Cancer Foundation (SCOCF) with whom she got involved after a chance encounter with a SCOCF board member in the Atlanta airport.

In the Huffington Post article I mentioned before,  you may have read about a few other celebrities who have lent their voices to the cause without a direct connection.  They include Kelly Ripa through her association with Electrolux and Janet Jackson who was inspired by a friend.

There are a few celebrities mentioned in the article who have been touched by the disease as well.  Patrick Dempsey, Angelina Jolie, and Kyle MacLachlan all lost their mothers while Ray Romano lost a cousin.  All have lent their celebrity to raising awareness in one way or another.
