Teal tidbits: It’s Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month in the UK!

by on March 10, 2012

It’s Ovarian Cancer Awareness month in the U.K.  As a result, there has been some fantastic coverage popping up online, including this article from The Guardian entitled “The UK’s hidden cancer” – in the article, two women who have had ovarian cancer tell their stories and talk about the importance of early diagnosis.  The symptoms of ovarian cancer often go unnoticed, which means that by the time it’s diagnosed, it may be extremely advanced.  The lack of knowledge about these early warning signs is one reason that increasing awareness of ovarian cancer is so very important.

Also in the U.K., nail polish maker OPI and the charity Ovacome have teamed up to launch the Teal Tips campaign – this initiative aims to encourage women to wear teal colored nail polish to raise awareness.  Teal is the recognized color for ovarian cancer awareness, and the hope is that by wearing the polish, women will get their friends and colleagues talking about the disease and its symptoms.  In addition, OPI will be making a donation to the charity Ovacome for every bottle of Teal the Cows Come Home sold in March.  (I love the name.)  You can read more about the initiative here.  I’ll be looking to see if I can purchase the color online – I can’t resist a cute color and a great cause, after all.
